1949: "The Goldbergs," the first sitcom on American television, airs for the first time. The show, which got it start as a radio show from 1929 to 1946, followed the home life of a Jewish family living in The Bronx, New York. It would air on and off on several different stations and in syndication through 1956 for a total of 71 episodes.
