1919: Actor and comedian Red Buttons, best known for movie roles in "Sayonara," "Hatari!," "The Longest Day," "The Poseidon Adventure," "They Shoot Horses, Don't They?" and "Pete's Dragon," is born Aaron Chwatt in New York City. Buttons, who won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for "Sayonara," died at age 87 on July 13, 2006, of complications from high blood pressure.
