1918: Professional tennis player Bobby Riggs, who was the world's top professional player in 1946-47 and gained more fame for his 1973 "Battle of the Sexes" tennis matches against top female players Margaret Court and Billie Jean King, is born in Los Angeles, Calif. He died of prostate cancer at age 77 on Oct. 25, 1995.
