1894: Actor and comedian Jack Benny, best known for his show "The Jack Benny Program," which ran on radio and TV for more than three decades and was a major influence on the sitcom genre, is born Benjamin Kubelsky in Chicago. He's seen here in 1960 with his wife, Mary Livingstone. Benny died of pancreatic cancer at age 80 on Dec. 26, 1974.
