League of Women Voters

1920: The League of Women Voters is founded in Chicago during the last meeting of the National American Woman Suffrage Association about six months before the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution gives women the right to vote. Today, the advocacy group operates one of the largest and longest running non-partisan voter registration efforts in the nation and local chapters often sponsor candidate debates.
