1942: Singer-songwriter Harry Chapin, best known for his folk rock songs including "Taxi," "W*O*L*D" and the No. 1 hit "Cat's in the Cradle," is born in Brooklyn, N.Y. He died in a car crash in Jericho, N.Y., at the age of 38 on July 16, 1981.
