1928: Singer-actor Eddie Fisher, the most successful pop singles artist of the first half of the 1950s, is born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Fisher's No. 1 hits included "Wish You Were Here," "I'm Walking Behind You," "Oh! My Pa-Pa" and "I Need You Now." He was also the father of actresses Carrie Fisher (with Debbie Reynolds) and Joely Fisher (with Connie Stevens). He died at age 82 on Sept. 22, 2010.
