1977: In Yonkers, New York, 24-year-old postal employee David Berkowitz is arrested for the "Son of Sam" series of killings that took place in the New York City area over the period of one year. Shortly after his arrest, Berkowitz confessed to killing six people and wounding several others in the course of eight shootings. He later claimed that he was commanded to kill by a demon that possessed his neighbor's dog. He was eventually sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for each murder, to be served consecutively, making his maximum term 365 years.
