1958: The crime thriller "Touch of Evil," written, directed by, and co-starring Orson Welles, premieres in Los Angeles. The movie, which also starred Charlton Heston and Janet Leigh, was re-edited by the studio and released as a B-movie. Although it found little commercial success in America, it found an audience in Europe and eventually became considered a film noir classic.
