After a surprisingly lengthy debate, the New York State Senate passed a bill that would make yogurt the state's official snack.

The New York Times reported that senators debated for nearly an hour on the bill. Issues raised included whether or not honoring yogurt would offend those with lactose intolerance or if yogurt could even be considered a snack, since some eat it for breakfast.

The bill passed by a vote of 52-8 and now goes on to the state Assembly.
