Threat forces Coachella Valley High School to enforce stricter Halloween guidelines

School will increase security as a precaution

COACHELLA, Calif. - Graffiti was found in the boy's bathroom of Coachella Valley High School threatening a shooting at the school on Tuesday.

The graffiti on the wall said "School shooting 10/31/17"

The threat was found over the weekend by cleaning staff, Sheriff's deputies were notified of the threat Monday morning.

Following an investigation, deputies determined that there was no credible threat to students or staff.

The school will be increasing security and checking students on Tuesday as a precaution.

A voicemail message was sent to parents:

Good afternoon parents and guardians of Coachella Valley High School. A message was identified today indicating a possible threat to the school Sheriff Department is investigating the threat and will be providing additional deputies and personnel to our site. Student safety is the utmost importance to our records at Coachella Valley High School. In light of tomorrow being Halloween. No face paint mask or anything they can hide the identity of an individual is allowed in addition no facsimile weapons are allowed on school campus. Costumes must follow our dress code and be in good taste. Thank you.

School officials are enforcing restrictions on Halloween costumes:

  • No face paint or masks will be allowed
  • No costume weapons
  • No toy weapons
  • Costumes must follow the school dress code and be in good taste
