Vigil remembering Zia Hoyos

Remembering a lost loved one is always difficult, especially when it was a life cut so short.

"My daughter was gong to be 17 years old tomorrow," Zia Hoyos' mother, Senta Flores, said.

Family and friends circled two crosses near Gene Autry Trail, rembemring Zia Hoyos at a vigil Friday night. Police found her body on Gene Autry Trail just north of Vista Chino on May 21. The driver that never stopped was never found.

"I know you guys are out there. You guys need to turn yourself in. You're going to have to live with this for the rest of your life," Flores said.

Few leads and no suspect description leave the pain stinging fresh.

"She was not alone. They know who they were. Somebody left her out here. She would not have been walking on Gene Autry by herself," Flores said.

Though the sun set too early on Zia's life, her family said it hasn't really ended for the young girl.

"She's our angel. We all believe that she's our Zia angel," cousin Maria Espejo said.
