Palm Springs, Calif. - St. Theresa Catholic Church will host a prayer service Tuesday for victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, including a Palm Springs church volunteer.
Palm Springs Deputy Fire Chief John Allen will speak at the service, which will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday to remember Barbara Keating, who was killed on American Airlines Flight 11 when it crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center in New York. Keating was heading back to Los Angeles from Boston.
"I am honored to be given the opportunity to speak to the students and the St. Theresa community about the impact that tragic day had on our country and on the thousands of firefighters from around the United States who served on that day and beyond as the nation mourned," Allen said.
St. Theresa School Principal Cheryl Corey said she was "so pleased that Deputy Chief Allen will join us for this special service to remember the victims - and in particular, our former parishioner Barbara Keating. Our school and our students are big fans of the Palm Springs Fire Department and we thank these community heroes for all that they do for our city."
