Palm Springs doctor pleads not guilty to sexual battery charges

INDIO, Calif. - A Palm Springs doctor accused of groping an 18-year-old female volunteer at the clinic where he worked pleaded not guilty today to five counts of sexual battery.

The misdemeanor charges were filed against 66-year-old Daniel Glywn Walters, M.D., Friday. He remains free on $3,500 bail.

Walters entered his plea by way of his attorney before Riverside County Superior Court Judge Otis Sterling, who set a pretrial conference in the case for May 21.

The defendant was arrested March 7 at his workplace, SleepWise Sleep and Behavioral Medicine Center at 1801 E. Tahquitz Canyon Way, according to the Palm Springs Police Department.

The alleged victim, whose identity was not released, contacted police, alleging that Walters had "committed sexual battery upon her" on March 5 and 6 while she volunteered at SleepWise, according to a police statement.

The statement didn't elaborate on the alleged offenses.

The woman started volunteering at the center on March 4, police said.
