Workers clearing a field for agricultural purposes in Thermal today found human bones, a sheriff's spokesman said.
The find was reported shortly after 10 a.m. at Avenue 60 and Monroe Street. Workers who were clearing a large field of brush so it could be used for farming found the bones and called the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, sheriff's Cpl. Angel Ramos said.
He said homicide and forensics detectives and coroner's officials were sent to the scene and verified the bones were human, not animal remains.
The person's identity and cause of death have yet to be determined.
Anyone with information was asked to call the sheriff's Thermal station at (760) 863-8990 or Coachella Valley Crime Stoppers at (760) 341-7867.
