PALM SPRINGS, Calif. - South Palm Springs is welcoming a new place to hangout this summer.  Hacienda Cantina and Beach Club is officially open just in time for the start of summer tomorrow.

The restaurant pool venue hopes to make a splash in the Valley's nightlife.  It means jobs and another effort to revitalize South Palm Springs.

"It's something Palm Springs has been hurting for for awhile," said Hacienda Cantina and Beach Club manager Nicole Novak.

Sitting right on South Palm Canyon, the new venue is already attracting attention

"It's the talk of the town right now just from me leaving my hotel room and see the color awnings just past by I got excited," said Palm Springs visitor Giorgio Sease.

The main attraction is the free beach club.

"I think it's cool, the outside pool area looks fantastic, it looks very inviting and the inside from what I've seen looks nice as well," said Palm Springs resident David Rossi.

The larges outdoor space is designed to hold 1,500 people at once all over 21.  It features it's own bar, a lounge area and private cabanas that face what will be a concert venue.

"We are also partnered with LED and Goldenvoice for shows so they will be putting on some entertainment with us as well," said Novak.

Inside there are two more bars, a dance floor and a Vegas style lounge all with access to the modern Mexican themed restaurant

"This is way different not having a hotel, but still having that flavor of lounging and relaxing and having outdoor drinks," said Sease.

"It's kind of sparse on this end of town and I think having something like this would be a major plus," said Rossi.

The new venue is creating 70 new jobs during a time when many businesses close down for the summer.

"We really want to cater to locals. I'm a local, everyone that works here is local, and it's something we have really been wishing for for awhile," said Novak.

As was the City of Palm Springs, it awarded the cantina a $250,000 economic incentive grant to help make it a reality.

"We really wanted to develop South palm springs, it's a beautiful area, this is such a beautiful architectural structure and we really want to breath some new life into it," said Novak,

It's a trend that is happening all over the city with the opening of the Hard Rock Hotel, the new hotel planned at The Spa, and the downtown mall redevelopment.
