The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said 22-year-old Martin Pina-Sandoval, of Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico, died Friday night after his motorcycle was hit by a driver allegedly under the influence.
According to a report released by the Coachella Police Department, officers responded to a traffic collision near the intersection of Harrison and Cairo Streets in the city of Coachella just after 6:30 p.m. Police said a vehicle was making a left-turn onto eastbound Cairo Avenue from southbound Harrison street when it collided with Pina-Sandoval's motorcycle, which was traveling northbound on Harrison Street.
Pina-Sandoval sustained major injuries and was transported to a John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital where he died less than an hour after the accident.
The driver of the vehicle, 28-year-old Indio resident Victor Damian Reyes, was booked at the Riverside County Jail in Indio for gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving under the influence of drugs causing injuries.

The NB lanes of Harrison and Avenue 52 in Coachella will be closed for several hours after a collision involving a motorcycle and a vehicle.
The accident was first reported at 6:30 pm. The motorcyclist was taken to the hospital in an unknown condition.
