DESERT HOT SPRINGS, Calif. -

Two armed men stole a car and other items at gunpoint in South Desert Hot Springs early Friday morning, a sheriff's sergeant said.

The robbery was reported at 3:20 a.m. at a residence in the 17000 block of Mountain View Road. The residents were outside when the suspects approached, brandished firearms and ordered them inside, then took a Hyundai Elantra and other items, sheriff's Sgt. Tom Brewster said.

The suspects left in the stolen car, which was found abandoned a short time later near Long Canyon Road and 18th Avenue. No one was hurt, Brewster said.

One suspect was described as a white man 35 to 45 years old,  about 6 feet 2 inches tall and 220 pounds, with short brown hair, a mustache. He wore a white dress shirt, black pants and a dark tie and held a semiautomatic handgun.

The second suspect was described as a white man 35 to 45 years old, about 5 feet 11 inches tall, 220 pounds, with short brown hair and, like the other suspect, wearing a white dress shirt, black pants and dark tie. He also carried a handgun.
