INDIO, Calif. - Authorities have released the identity of the man killed in an officer-involved shooting Sunday night in Indio.

The suspect was 20-year-old Jesus Zuriel Orduno Luviano of Indio.

Around 11:30 p.m. Sunday, officers with the California Highway Patrol attempted to pull over Luviano for suspected DUI on eastbound Highway 111 near Jefferson Street. Luviano didn't stop at first, but then pulled over and got out of the car with a shotgun, according to the sheriff's department.

Officers said they ordered him to lower the weapon but he refused. The California Highway Patrol called the Indio Police Department for assistance.

According to Deputy Armando Munoz with the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, the suspect pulled out a shotgun and fired off at least one round, leading officers to return fire, ultimately killing Luviano at the scene.

No officers were hurt. The Riverside County Sheriff's Department continues to investigate the deadly altercation.

KESQ and CBS Local 2 were at the scene Monday morning and learned that a stray bullet hit some wires leading to a power box during the shooting.

The Imperial Irrigation District was called because three businesses were without power Monday morning. The utility company had to wait to make repairs while officers investigated the shooting.

Highway 111 between Madison Street and Jefferson Street was closed for several hours during the investigation. Westbound lanes were reopened just after 3 p.m. Monday and eastbound lanes were back open around 5 p.m.
