Man dies after being shot in Desert Hot Springs

Police search for suspect(s) in the area of Palm Drive, Buena Vista Ave.


DESERT HOT SPRINGS, Calif. - A man has died after he was shot in Desert Hot Springs around 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, according to Officer Jim Henson with the police department. Authorities are asking residents in the area of Palm Drive and Buena Vista Avenue to be safe while investigators search the area for the shooting suspect(s).

The shooting victim was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center but later died from his injuries. Police haven't released his identity.

Buena Vista Avenue was closed between Palm Drive and Ocotillo Road while officers investigated, Henson said.

The incident was reported on Cahuilla Avenue and Buena Vista Avenue and witnesses told us they spotted the victim running before falling to the ground near Palm Drive.

Neighbors in the area told KESQ & CBS Local 2 reporter Laura Yanez they heard four shots fired.

When Tuesday's shooting occurred, Yanez was already in Desert Hot Springs on assignment from a previous shooting that happened Monday night  in the 66-300 block of Desert View.

Darnaiel Patterson, 19, was killed in Monday's shooting. Patterson's mother, Dhalihia Ellis spoke with us Tuesday and confirmed his identity.
