LA QUINTA, Calif. -

A man was arrested Wednesday after yelling at an officer and leading him on a short pursuit through La Quinta, according to police.

Just after 1 p.m. Wednesday, a Dodge Challenger pulled alongside a patrol car at a stop sign at the intersection of Calle Tampico and Avenida Mendoza and began yelling obscenities and derogatory comments at the officer inside.

According to police, the officer was unfazed by the man and told him to continue on his way. Apparently, the man in the Dodge continued screaming, and the officer realized the man may have been under the influence of a controlled substance.

The officer pulled the man over. At first, the man cooperated, but then drove off.

The officer pursued him for half a mile before taking the suspect into custody for being under the influence of a controlled substance and evading a police officer.
