MECCA, Calif. -

More than 300 families depend on the Galilee Center in Mecca for food and clothes each week. And, the holidays bring in many more.
The center plans to provide 600 food baskets, including a turkey, starting at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.

To help provide enough meals, Augustine Casino in Coachella filled the Center's truck with canned food and donated $1,500.

"It's a blessing because we are really in need. We provide 300 families every week and that takes a lot of the food," said Gloria Gomez, founder of the Galilee Center.

Gomez warned that donations to the center are down 50 percent compared to this time last year. It needs canned goods, spices, turkeys, whole chickens and fixings. The FIND food bank said Monday that all around there's a shortage of donations.

"It's a wonderful time to help people. It's an opportunity for the people who have some to provide to the low-income families," said Gomez.

If you are in need, here's where you can also go for help.
