Local man describes being in middle of Las Vegas concert shooting

THOUSAND PALMS, Calif. - A Palm Desert man is sharing what he felt during the horrifying moment a gunman opened fire on a crowd of festivalgoers leaving over 50 dead and 527 injured.

Hans Nicoll and his girlfriend were in the crowd watching Jason Aldean perform when shots rang out.

Nicoll said he initially thought the gunshots were someone pulling a prank, then as they continued and bullets started ricocheting off the stage, he realized what was going on.

He said a number of people around him took to the ground for cover but he began to tell those nearby to run from the area.

Nicoll said other people stepped up and helped people to safety.
