INDIO, Calif. - Saturday, two local boxers were named co-grand marshals of the 72nd annual Riverside County Fair and National Date Festival President's Day Parade.
The parade steps off at 9 a.m. Monday at Miles Avenue and Deglet Noor Street in downtown Indio.
The co-grand marshals will be Citalli Ortiz, a 17-year-old boxer who recently took the gold in the 2017 International Boxing Association's Women's Youth Boxing World Championship in India, and Lee Espinoza, who has trained boxers for 38 years as the founder of the Lee Espinoza Boxing Club in Coachella and is known as the "Godfather of Local Boxing,'' according to a news release.
The co-grand marshals will be joined in the parade by Fourth District Riverside County Supervisor V. Manuel Perez.
The parade typically attracts thousands of visitors to the streets of downtown Indio and will feature "floats, bands, equestrian units and entertainment galore,'' according to the fair's website.
