PALM SPRINGS, Calif. -

The left two lanes on the westbound I-10 were shut down today after a big rig swerved into the center divider and then jackknifed, blocking the road.

The accident happened around 2 p.m. just west of the Indian Canyon exit.

According to CHP, the driver of the big rig swerved initially to avoid hitting a slower moving car in the right-hand lane. He then lost control of the big rig, sending it into the center divider.

The driver of the truck was taken to Desert Regional Hospital. There is no official word on his condition at this time.
