INDIO - A man was shot twice today in the fourth suspected gang- related shooting within the past five weeks in one Indio neighborhood.
The unidentified victim was shot twice during a confrontation with several people while walking near Swingle and Helen avenues around 2:10 a.m., said Sgt. Anthony Baur of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department. The victim was driven to a hospital by a passing motorist, Baur said.
He is in critical condition, but expected to survive, Baur said.
Although deputies were called to the hospital, the shooting is thought to be related to an earlier report of shots fired around 1:30 a.m. today in the 44000 block of Swingle Avenue.
The shooting is believed to be gang related, making it the fourth report since September 12, Baur said. The other three included an Oct. 1 drive-by shooting that damaged a parked vehicle, but left the car's occupants unharmed, two blocks away on Sirocco Avenue.
