A man and a 17-year-old boy suspected in the armed robbery of a medical clinic in Indio are in custody Tuesday, police said.
The robbery at Indio Medical Clinic, 82-360 Highway 111 was reported at 4:05 p.m. Tuesday, Indio police spokesman Ben Guitron said.
The suspects -- one armed with a handgun, the other with a knife -- had their faces covered when they entered the clinic, Guitron said.
The gunman, later identified as Alejandro Acevedo, 39, of Indio allegedly took a bag filled with medical items from the clinic's front office, he said.
The knife-wielding suspect, identified as a 17-year-old boy, also from Indio, is suspected of robbing a cellular phone and money from two customers in the clinic lobby, Guitron said.
Both suspects fled in the direction of the Vintage Palms Apartments at 82-435 Requa Street, he said.
Officers set up a perimeter and arrested Acevedo at the apartments, Guitron said. Based on information he provided they later found and arrested the 17-year-old at the same apartment complex, he said.
Police recovered the stolen property and a handgun, Guitron said.
Both suspects were booked on suspicion of armed robbery, conspiracy to commit a crime, possession of stolen property and weapons violations, Guitron said.
Acevedo was booked into the Riverside County sheriff's jail facility in Indio, he said. He was being held in lieu of $30,000 bail and was due in court in Indio on Thursday, according to sheriff's online jail records.
The youth was booked into the Riverside County Juvenile Hall in Indio, he said.
