INDIO, Calif. -

Two adults and three children were displaced this afternoon when a fire damaged a duplex in Indio, a county fire department spokeswoman said.

The non-injury blaze, which damaged two units -- one of which was unoccupied -- was reported about 1:40 p.m. at 82329 Valencia Ave.

It was originally a two-alarm fire, but the second alarm was canceled and the flames were extinguished by about 2 p.m., Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Melody Hendrickson said.

The American Red Cross was called to assist the residents, she said. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
