The Palm Springs International Film Festival will offer a free outdoor screening at Forever Marilyn Park on Saturday night in Downtown Palm Springs.
'Cinema Paradiso', the festival's first Audience Award winner, received the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. It will start at 5:30 p.m. on January, 11, at 101 N. Palm Canyon Dr.
Free hot chocolate from Espresso Cielo, the official coffee of the festival, will be provided to the first 250 guests. Festival sponsor Frito Lay will distribute complimentary snacks as well.
"We're thrilled to have this opportunity to share one of the Festival's all-time most popular films with today's audience, courtesy of our friends at Desert Regional," said Festival Director Darryl MacDonald.
"The film is a timeless treasure tracing a young boy's lifelong love affair with the magic of the movies thanks to his relationship with a theater projectionist in a small town in Italy in the late1940's. [The fact] That one of the pivotal scenes in the movie takes place during an outdoor screening makes this event even more perfect as a 25th Anniversary celebration of the opening of this Festival, and an ode to the joys of movie going in general," MacDonald said.
The film is directed by Giuseppe Tornatore and stars Antonella Attili, Enzo Cannavale, Isa Danieli, Leo Gullotta and Marco Leonard.
The Palm Springs International Film Festival welcomes 135,000 attendees annually for its lineup of new and celebrated international features and documentaries.
