Fallen officers honored at Blue Lights Ceremony in Riverside

Officers killed in the line of duty honored at Blue Lights Ceremony in Riverside

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Riverside County honored those who have lost their lives with a Blue Light Ceremony Monday evening.

Families who lost loved ones were presented with flowers. They also received candles before a countdown to the blue lights

Sheriff Stan Sniff and other local officials spoke at the event in Riverside.

"Every holiday, it seems like a lonely time. The rest of us are running around with all the bright festive lights. It's a pretty lonely time for the coworkers, for those that have fallen in the lines of duty," Sniff said. "It's important at this time when everyone is distracted to take time to remember those that have served all of our communities, federal, state, county, and city level protecting our community."

The Sheriff's Department held another blue light ceremony here in the desert last week.

More than 100 offices have died in the line of duty this year nationwide, 43 of those were by gunfire.
