A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck at 9:10 p.m. tonight, centered one mile east of La Habra, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.
The earthquake was felt in at least five Southern California counties -- Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, Ventura and San Diego.
A magnitude-3.6 earthquake struck in La Habra at 8:03 p.m.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department is receiving reports of gas leaks in the Rowland Heights area after the 5.3 magnitude earthquake that struck near La Habra at 9:09 p.m., says department supervisor Ed Pickett. The Los Angeles Police Department and Los Angeles and Orange county sheriff's departments have not received immediate reports of damage or injuries. A lieutenant at the Orange County sheriff's office in Silverado Canyon said the shaking lasted nearly 30 seconds.
