A dog is recovering after he was found frozen to the ground in sub-zero temperatures.

Deputies in Jasper, Ind. recently responded to a call of animal neglect when dogs were spotted outside as the temperatures to dipped to 6 below zero with wind chills as low as 25 below, reports TheIndyChannel.com.

According to a sergeant and spokesperson for the sheriff's department, a deputy found "Peanut" in a small pen with no food and frozen water. There was another dog found outside as well, but Peanut was the only one frozen to the ground and appeared to be suffering from overall neglect. Deputies used warm water to free the animal and took him to the county’s Humane Society shelter.

50-year-old George Kimmel and 55-year-old Dorothy Kimmel have been charged with animal neglect. They have relinquished custody of Peanut to the Humane Society, where he is currently up for adoption.
