THOUSAND PALMS, Calif. - A man is in critical condition after being shot in Thousand Palms Friday evening.
The shooting was reported on the 72400 block of El Centro Way just before 6:40 pm.
According to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, deputies arrived on scene and found an adult man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
"All I heard was 8 gunshots. At first, I thought it was coming from over there and then I saw everybody running," said Rebecca Jauregui, a resident at the complex.
Witnesses told KESQ / CBS Local 2's Joe Galli that children were playing in a playground when bullets started flying. They ran for cover, then they heard the sound of tires squealing as someone took off in hurry.
Parents say they were filled with concern as their apartment complex became a crime scene.
"This is very quite it is very family oriented so this is a shock to me not being able to pull up and park and I have to go back to work tonight so I am kind of nervous about leaving my two children here," said Kennisha Carey, a resident at the complex.
The man was transported to the hospital and is currently in critical condition. No arrests have been made so far, deputies are still investigating.
