One person suffered minor injuries

Early morning fire destroys three Indio

INDIO, Calif. - Crews battled a fire burning in a strip mall at the 82000 block of Highway 111 early Monday morning. That's near the Dollar Tree at Monroe. The fire destroyed one business and damaged two additional units of a strip mall.

Damages estimated at $1 million dollars with a save of $3 million dollars.

The fire broke out just before 2:00 a.m. Monday at Shadow Hills MMA and was contained by 3:05 a.m.  One person was evaluated for minor injuries but was not taken to the hospital.

A man, who identified himself as the MMA center owner's son, told reporter Katie Widner that he believes someone broke through the front doors and stole special knives inside, then lit the fire.

A neighboring business owner also suspects the building was intentionally set on fire.

Cal Fire and Indio Police remained on scene for overhaul throughout the morning.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
