INDIO, Calif. -

Three people were injured -- one of them seriously -- in a two-vehicle crash today in Indio.

The crash was reported about 6 a.m. near Fred Waring Drive and Jefferson Street. Both vehicles, a Toyota Corolla and a Jeep Cherokee, had major damage and the driver of the Corolla had to be cut out of the wreckage, according to the Indio Police Department.

Both drivers, along with a passenger in the Toyota, were taken to local hospitals.

It was unclear if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash, according to police. Fred Waring east of Jefferson was closed for several hours for the crash investigation and clean-up.
