PALM SPRINGS, Calif. - Local California Highway Patrol officer honored for his years of service to the community.
Officer Mike Radford was honored Monday afternoon by the Palm Springs Human Rights Commission at its annual Community Service Awards. The awards are aimed at promoting universal human rights close to home and honoring those who have a major role in community outreach.
Radford was awarded for his years of work with the "Chips for Kids," a toy drive that provides presents to hundreds of children in the east valley.
"As a police officer, you don't really expect to receive an award for the work that you do. The Chips for Kids toy drives is one of my favorite programs to be a part of because we get to donate toys to needy children around the holidays Chrismas," Radford said.
Others who were honored included Senior Advocates of the Desert and the Metropolitan Community Church of the Coachella Valley.
