INDIO, Calif. -

An attempted murder charge was filed today against a Thousand Palms man who allegedly choked and tried to shoot his girlfriend after an argument.

Daryl Inigo Freeman, 27, was also charged with one felony count each of assault with a deadly weapon, making criminal threats, spousal injury and vandalism. He was scheduled to be arraigned this afternoon at the Larson Justice Center in Indio.

Freeman was arrested Friday outside a residence in the 31600 block of Chimayo Road in Thousand Palms. The assault was reported by the 25-year-old alleged victim's sister, sheriff's Sgt. David Wright said.

Following an argument, Freeman ``pulled out a revolver, left one bullet in the cylinder, and threatened to kill himself or his girlfriend,'' according to the sergeant.

``Freeman spun the cylinder, pointed the revolver at the victim, and pulled the trigger,'' Wright alleged. ``The gun did not fire.''

Freeman allegedly choked the woman, but she was able to get away. A .44-caliber revolver was found at the scene, and Freeman was detained without incident, Wright said.

Freeman was being held in lieu of $1 million bail at the county jail in Indio, according to jail records.
