INDIAN WELLS, Calif. -

The 12th annual Dr. George Car Show takes place on February, 8, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the  Indian Wells Tennis Garden, according to event organizers.

The Show celebrates the memory of Dr. Sebastian George who helped cure the cancer of a Palm Springs Cruisin' Association member.

Dr. George was a nationally prominent oncologist at Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage. He was highly respected and loved by his patients. He was also the co-founder of the nonprofit Desert Cancer Foundation and often provided free medical care to patients who couldn't afford the services.

Dr. George died in 2002 in a traffic accident while helping a motorist who was in trouble.

Information about the car show:

  • All proceeds benefit the non-profit Desert Cancer Foundation                           DesertCancerFoundation.org which facilitates free cancer diagnoses and treatments for residents of the Coachella Valley and surrounding areas.

  • As of 2013, the show's contributions to the Desert Cancer Foundation have provided the equivalent of over $3.6 million in free medical treatments for those fighting cancer.  This makes the "Dr. George" the country's leading anti-cancer, fund-raising car show.

  • It's the eighth largest spectator event in the CV and generates significant tourism revenue.

  • The first show in 2003 had 400 cars.  This year, we expect 1,000 cars and over 8,000 visitors.

  • It's one of the largest one-day car shows in California.  It is the largest and oldest car show in the Coachella Valley.  Because of the quality and variety of cars, trucks, motorcycles, and vintage fire trucks on display, it is considered one of the finest car shows in the country.

  • The event is family-oriented and will feature food, vendors, celebrity guests, live music, a raffle, a silent auction, and a 50/50 drawing.

  • The Automobile Club of Southern California is the primary sponsor.

  • Several motorsports celebrities will be in attendance, including Sam Foose (legendary custom car designer & builder), Dick Guldstrand (“Mr. Corvette” and renowned international race car driver), Gary Meadors (founder of the Good-guys car show empire), and Dick Messer (Director Emeritus of the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles)
