San Diego wildfire grows to 2,500 acres

100 homes temporarily evacuated in San Diego County

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - A wildfire has grown to 2,500 acres east of Julian that temporarily forced the evacuation of 100 homes in San Diego County.Several hundred firefighters on Friday worked to corral the blaze near Banner Grade. Nick Schuler, battalion chief for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, says the fire was 20 percent contained.

No injuries or damage to structures were reported.  The fire, which began Thursday, was burning south away from homes, chewing through light grass in steep, rocky terrain.  Authorities evacuated about 100 homes in the Shelter Valley area along Highway 78 in the early stages of the blaze, but evacuation orders were lifted late Thursday and residents were allowed to
