Border patrol arrests previously-deported sex offender

He was ordered to be removed on Jan. 24.

NILAND, Calif.- - A previously-deported sex offender and four other individuals were arrested by El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents early Monday morning in Niland.

At 5:30 a.m., agents stopped a vehicle at their Highway 111 checkpoint and waived it along for secondary inspection and a brief immigration interview. During this secondary review, it was determined that four passengers in the vehicle did not have immigration documentation.

The driver and passengers were then transferred to the Indio station for processing. Record checks were conducted, and one individual was identified as 36-year-old Bladimir Martinez. The Guatemalan citizen had been previously convicted of Lewd and Lascivious Acts with a child under 14 years of age and sentenced to three years in prison.

An immigration judge ordered Martinez's removal from the country on Jan. 24. He will be prosecuted for Re-Entry-After-Removal.

In the 2018 fiscal year, El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents have arrested 21 sex offenders.
