PALM SPRINGS, Calif. - Authorities responded to Highway 111 near the Windy Point area after a big rig overturned Monday morning, blocking both southbound lanes of the highway. The Palm Springs Police Department have shut down southbound Highway 111 between I-10 and Palm Springs while authorities work to clear the scene.
It happened at about 10:30 a.m. on the southbound lanes of Highway 111. California Highway Patrol confirmed that wind played a factor in this crash.
Tips for driving in high wind:
- Anticipate random gusts. While you may be driving in mild wind conditions, anticipate random gusts. A strong gust of wind could push your car into another lane or overturn a high-profile vehicle;
- Be aware of larger vehicles on the road. Give them plenty of space as they are more susceptible to high winds and may have trouble staying in their lane;
- Always keep a firm grip on the wheel
