A big rig driver was killed when his truck collided with another truck on Highway 60 in Beaumont and overturned, temporarily shutting down eastbound lanes, authorities said.
The crash on the eastbound 60 near Jack Rabbit Trail was reported at 8:54 p.m. Thursday, according to the California Highway Patrol. A SigAlert was declared by the CHP at 9:50 p.m. after the two eastbound lanes of the 60 were closed.
The driver of the overturned truck died in the accident. His name was withheld pending notification of next of kin, according to authorities. No other injuries were immediately reported.
Nineteen firefighters from Cal Fire and the Riverside County Fire Department HazMat team responded to the scene to clean up a diesel fuel leak resulting from the crash, said county fire department spokeswoman Melody Hendrickson.
The overturned semi's trailer slammed through the truck's cab, killing the driver, a news photographer reported from the scene.
The road remained closed as of 2 a.m. Friday, according to the CHP. The cause of the crash was under investigation.
