BEAUMONT, Calif. -

A Riverside County city has become the latest to try banning medical marijuana dispensaries in the wake of a state Supreme Court ruling permitting prohibition.

The Riverside Press-Enterprise says the Beaumont City Council approved a ban Tuesday night. A second vote is needed before the measure can take effect, probably in the next two months.

The state Supreme Court gave cities permission to ban pot shops in a ruling it made earlier this month in a Riverside case.
