COACHELLA, Calif. -

Coachella City officials were on hand to unveil the 3.5 million dollar expansion to Bagdouma park this afternoon. Children who attended were the first to use the new playgrounds, walking paths and water features.

Coachella Mayor Edwardo Garcia says the community is succeeding with the opening of the park. He says he grew up on the other side of the fence where the park is and he used to walk to school and there was nothing but desert.

The upgraded park also has a football field and a soccer match took place directly after the ceremony on the brand new football field. Mayor Garcia says a second phase of the expansion will bring even more fields to the park.
