BANNING, Calif. -

Detectives from the Larry Smith Correctional Facility and the Central Homicide Unit in Banning are investigating the death of one of the jail's inmates.

According to reports, at about 3:10 p.m. Saturday, deputies from the jail responded to a call inside one of the housing units and found an adult, white male suffering from traumatic injuries. The male was said to have been found inside his cell and was unresponsive.

Deputies and medical staff administered life-saving measures but the man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The name of the victim will not be released until next of kin has been notified.

No arrests have been made. The investigation is said to be ongoing.
