PALM DESERT, Calif. - Anthony Martinez will be honored at a candlelight vigil Tuesday night as part of National Crime Victims' Rights Week, exactly 20 years after he was kidnapped. The vigil is being hosted by Riverside County District Attorney Mike Hestrin.
Martinez was kidnapped and murdered in Beaumont 20 years ago in a case that received national attention. A fountain outside of the Beaumont police station was dedicated Monday in his honor along with Lt. John Acosta and Lt. Mitch White who worked on the murder case.
The keynote speaker at the vigil will be Diana Reed, the mother of Martinez. DA Hestrin is also expected to make an appearance and give remarks. The vigil is part of of a total of three DA Hestrin will be presiding over during the week across Riverside County.
The vigil will be held at Civic Center Park at 43-900 San Pablo Ave. in Palm Desert and begins at 7 p.m.
