SALTON CITY, Calif. -

Yesterday afternoon, border patrol agents at the Highway 86 checkpoint between Westmorland and Salton City arrested a suspected drug smuggler after they discovered $66,000 worth of marijuana hidden inside her SUV.

Around 1:30 P.M., agents inspected a 2006 Dodge Durango as it attempted to travel through the checkpoint and decided to search the vehicle. During the search, they found 18 packages of marijuana hidden in all four door panels and inside a spare tire. The weight of the drugs totaled 82.9 pounds which they estimated at a value of $66,000.

The 34-year-old citizen of the United States was arrested and turned over to the Imperial County Sheriff's Office, along with the vehicle and marijuana, for further investigation.
