Defense Secretary Leon Panetta says the 33,000 additional troops sent to Afghanistan nearly two years ago have all pulled out of the country.

Panetta calls it a "very important milestone," and says the troop surge accomplished its goals in Afghanistan.

The withdrawal comes as the security transition to Afghan forces is threatened by a spike in attacks on NATO troops by Afghan Army and police.
