(CNN) -- U.S. President Barack Obama, after meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, told reporters in the West Bank on Thursday that the United States is "deeply committed to the creation of an independent and sovereign state of Palestine" as part of a two-state solution with Israel. Palestinians, he said, "deserve a future of hope," and a future in which "their rights will be respected."
