CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. -

Two students were taken to a hospital after the school bus in which they were riding got into a fender bender with an SUV in Cathedral City today, according to a California Highway Patrol spokesman.

The crash was reported at 7:25 a.m. on 30th Avenue west of San Elan Avenue. A Palm Springs Unified School District bus, driven by 43-year-old Maria Jimenez of Coachella, was in the left-turn lane on 30th Avenue when a Ford Explorer driven by 42-year-old Cathedral City Gonzolo Lopez Jr., merged into the bus's path, CHP Officer Joe Zagorski said.

The bus's right front bumper struck the SUV's left front fender, Zagorski said. A number of students on the bus complained of pain, and two were transported to Desert Regional Medical Center for pain treatment. Lopez received minor injuries and was treated at the scene, Zagorski said.

There were 44 students on the bus. The conditions of the two students taken to the hospital was unknown, according to Zagorski.
